How a mistake is fixed, and the public log.
A correction is a fix to something we got wrong: a number, a name, a sequence, a translated line that changed the meaning. An update is new information on a story that was right when we published it. A clarification explains a line that readers fairly misread. Corrections and updates are both listed here.
We aim to fix a confirmed mistake within a day of verifying it. The article keeps its date and gains an updated time. The log says what was wrong. We do not quietly overwrite the error.
