Privacy notice

What this site stores, why, and how to ask for deletion. This is a working text, not a lawyer's opinion.

This notice covers neutralpolitics pages, contributor uploads, newsletter signups, and messages sent through the forms. It is written for India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. It is a working text for this first version and should be read by a lawyer before the site is opened to the public.

What we collect

If you send a video, we ask for your name, Indian mobile number, email, city, state, a description of what you saw, and the file. If you join the list, we store an email or a WhatsApp number, the language you pick, and the topics you tick. If you report an error or send a claim, we store the message and any email you add. We store a hash of the IP address, not the raw address.

Why

Contributor details are used to verify a video and to reply. They are not published unless you asked to be credited by name. Signup details are stored so a newsletter or a WhatsApp alert can be sent later, after that sending is approved. No message is sent in this version. Reports are used to correct or check a story.

How long

A rejected video and the personal details with it are deleted after 30 days. Details attached to a video we publish are kept for one year and then cut down. A signup stays until you unsubscribe. You can ask for deletion. Taking a video down is straightforward when it has not been published. A story already published may stay, with the file removed where that is feasible.

Who can see it

The database is locked so the public cannot read these rows. Only the desk, through the password-protected admin page, can review them. We do not sell this information.
