TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh alleges a second attack on his car in Kolkata

Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh alleged that a group attacked his car on Sunday morning, 27 September 2026, at Phoolbagan in Kolkata, on his way to a programme in Beliaghata. The Indian Express, The Times of India and Amar Ujala reported the allegation. He is the MLA from Beliaghata. The Times of India reported that visuals showed the car with a vandalised window. Who struck it is his allegation.

The Indian Express reported his account. He said 15 to 20 people on motorbikes had followed him from home. At Phoolbagan, he said, they surrounded the car, broke the glass with a hammer and a firearm, tore his shirt and tried to drag him out. He said some had covered their faces, blocked the car, and carried firearms and iron rods. He said security drew a service revolver, and the driver reached Narkeldanga police station. The Times of India, citing ANI, reported that he alleged revolvers and that security had to draw weapons.

From the police station he said: "They tried to kill me. They attacked my car and followed me from my residence. To save myself, I took shelter in the police station; otherwise, they would have killed me. There is jungle raj going on. They can kill me, but they cannot suppress my voice." "BJP is certainly involved, and the police are inactive; we will have to see who else is implicated," he said, ANI reported via The Times of India. "What do they want? Do they want my dead body? Until I am dead, they will never be able to force me to change my stance." He said some attackers had been identified and their names given to police, and that he had told Beliaghata police of his movements. Those are his allegations.

The Indian Express reported that Kolkata Police went to the scene, began an investigation, were reviewing CCTV and were seeking witnesses. Police sources told the paper he had started a formal complaint. The Times of India and Amar Ujala reported the same. The reports do not say police have named a suspect.

He blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party. Spokesperson Debjit Sarkar rejected that. "This attack happened due to factionalism within the Trinamool. It is completely uncalled for. The state Chief Minister will definitely take action in this incident. They are trying to shift the blame onto the BJP by carrying out the attack themselves. The allegations against the BJP are false," Sarkar said.

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee wrote that he condemned the attack. He said it was the second time in less than 18 hours. "Armed goons have targeted and harassed an elected representative, allegedly because he has refused to change sides," he wrote. He asked Governor R. N. Ravi to coordinate with the Director General of West Bengal Police and the Kolkata police commissioner, and he asked for accountability. That is his appeal and his allegation.

The Sunday allegation followed an alleged attack on Saturday in Uttarpara, in Hooghly, on GT Road, while Ghosh was going to a meeting of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Serampore, The Indian Express reported. It said a group used sticks, iron rods, bricks, stones and eggs. The Times of India reported that he alleged stones, eggs and iron rods, damaged windshields, and no police at the spot. Amar Ujala reported that Trinamool leaders blamed BJP supporters for Saturday, while the BJP called it a reaction by local people. Both days remain allegations while the inquiry is open.
