This note is NP NOW BREAKING. The stamp is verified, and the toll is marked developing. It was re-verified at 11:28 am IST on 14 October 2026 and posted at 11:32 am IST.

Developing: figures may change.

Around 8:30 pm on Tuesday 13 October, a small boat capsized in the Ganga near Rampur Shyamchand, in Raghopur, Vaishali district, Bihar. The Times of India and CNBC-TV18 place the capsize at that time and at that spot. People on the boat were travelling to a feast in a nearby village. The Hindu, The Times of India, The Indian Express and CNBC-TV18 all report that journey.

District Magistrate Varsha Singh said 13 bodies had been recovered. Most of them were children. She said 7 people had been rescued and sent to NMCH Patna. The caption expands NMCH as Nalanda Medical College Hospital, Patna, the large government hospital there. The Hindu and CNBC-TV18 cite the District Magistrate for the toll and the rescue. The Times of India carries the same account via the SP. This note does not name the SP. The figure it uses is the District Magistrate's 13.

Three to four people were still reported missing when this was re-verified. The State Disaster Response Force, the SDRF, and divers searched through the night. Because people were still reported missing, the count is not closed. Developing: figures may change.

Tejashwi Yadav claims that 14 people died. CNBC-TV18 reports that claim. The claim is his. The official toll in this note remains the District Magistrate's 13. The two numbers are not folded into one.

The Indian Express's older English headline still reads 11. That headline is older than the District Magistrate's figure used here. This note records the older headline and does not adopt 11 as the toll.

Relief has been announced on two sides. The Chief Minister of Bihar announced ₹4 lakh for each victim's family. The Hindu, The Times of India, The Indian Express and CNBC-TV18 report that announcement. The Prime Minister announced ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, PMNRF, and ₹50,000 for the injured. The Hindu and CNBC-TV18 report the Prime Minister's announcement. PMNRF is the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, which is the caption's expansion.

The cause is to be investigated. That line is The Indian Express's. This note does not go past it. It does not describe how the boat was loaded, and it does not assign fault to a person, a village, or an office.

Most of the people who died were children, on the District Magistrate's account. This note does not name them. It does not describe faces. It does not carry a photograph of anyone who was on the boat.

The cover is a schematic map made by Neutral Politics. It shows Bihar, Vaishali and Raghopur on the Ganga as a drawn graphic. It is not to scale. The credit is "Graphic: Neutral Politics (NP-made map)". No news photograph is used.

What the four outlets agree on, as this check reads them at 11:28 am, is the place, the feast journey, the District Magistrate's toll of 13, the seven rescues, and the Chief Minister's ₹4 lakh. The missing count of three to four, and the night search by the SDRF and divers, are why the stamp carries a developing note beside the verified core. A later figure from the District Magistrate would replace 13. Until then, 13 is the official number in this note, Tejashwi Yadav's 14 stays his claim, and the older headline's 11 stays the older headline.
