From 00:01 on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, a new IndiGo booking carries a higher fuel charge. A booking already made does not. This note is NP EXPLAINS. The rupee figures below are as CNBC-TV18, The Times of India, Business Standard and Indian Express report them. Neutral Politics did not read IndiGo's own notice first-hand.

On a domestic flight the charge is per sector, set by distance. Up to 500 km it is Rs 375, up from Rs 275. From 501 to 1,000 km it is Rs 600, up from Rs 400. From 1,001 to 1,500 km it is Rs 900, up from Rs 600. From 1,501 to 2,000 km it is Rs 1,150, up from Rs 800. Above 2,000 km it is Rs 1,300, up from Rs 950. That is Rs 100 to Rs 350 more on a sector. The same table is in CNBC-TV18, The Times of India, Business Standard and Indian Express.

On an international flight, also per sector, the reports give these charges. SAARC routes are Rs 1,000 up to 500 km and Rs 3,000 above 500 km. Southeast Asia, the GCC and the Middle East, and North and East Asia are Rs 5,500. Africa is Rs 6,000. Europe is Rs 10,000. CNBC-TV18, Gulf News, The Times of India and The Economic Times report those region figures. The Times of India says the Europe charge will remain Rs 10,000, unchanged from April. Indian Express adds a finer split that matches the same figures: West Asia up to 2,000 km at Rs 5,500, up by Rs 2,500, and Greece and Turkey at Rs 10,000, up from Rs 7,500, with the rest of Europe unchanged.

The New Indian Express printed Rs 425 for a domestic sector under 500 km, and Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 on SAARC routes. Those figures are not used here.

The charge applies to each sector, each flight leg, and is added to the ticket price. Gulf News and CNBC-TV18 describe it that way. It is the fuel-charge part of the fare. It is not the base fare.

IndiGo says aviation turbine fuel rose more than 14% from the previous month, to among the highest levels in a decade. CNBC-TV18, The Times of India and Gulf News carry that line. The same reports say domestic ATF rose by Rs 16 a litre, about 13.2%, to about Rs 137 a litre from 1 October. CNBC-TV18 and The Economic Times call that the third monthly rise. The "more than 14%" line and the Rs 16 a litre move are separate comparisons. IndiGo called the charge change a "measured and relatively modest adjustment". That wording is the airline's, as the reports quote it.

In March the domestic charge was a flat Rs 425. In April it moved to distance slabs from Rs 275 to Rs 950. CNBC-TV18 and The Times of India report that. The March Rs 425 is that earlier flat charge, not the new rate under 500 km.

A ticket already booked is not affected. IndiGo said the revised charge applies to bookings made from 00:01 on 6 October. CNBC-TV18, Business Standard and The Times of India report that scope: Business Standard says "all new bookings made from 0001 hours", and The Times of India says "all new bookings made from 12.01 am". Indian Express is the report that states a booking already made will be unaffected. These reports do not say what a change or a reissue of an existing ticket would cost.

A separate published note covers a reported plan to cut weekly international slots at Mumbai airport. This note is only the fuel charge.

Neutral Politics checked these outlets on 6 October 2026. This note was posted at 9:38 am IST. The slabs and the new-bookings-only scope were unchanged in that material, and no further IndiGo clarification was in it.

The cover is a Neutral Politics fuel-gauge graphic. It shows no aircraft, no airline logo and no person.

What's next
