This note is NP NOW. The stamp is verified. The reel was posted at 3:30 pm IST on 18 October 2026. The northeast monsoon turned active, and heavy rain fell on Chennai from Saturday night into Sunday morning. Low-lying parts of north Chennai were waterlogged. The caption names Broadway, Mannadi, Tiruvottiyur and Madhavaram.

Minister Aadhav Arjuna, via The Hindu, said that at about 1:30 am some locations had about 20 cm of rain in one hour. That is his figure, as The Hindu reports it. It is not given here as an RMC total for the city. The same account covers Broadway and Mannadi, and says extra teams will remain until 21 October. The Hindu's city story was updated at 2:03 pm IST.

The Times of India, updated at 9:34 am IST, gives the RMC totals for the 24 hours to 5:30 am. Ennore Port recorded 222.5 mm, Nungambakkam 157.8 mm, and Meenambakkam 146.7 mm. India Today reports the same three readings.

The Greater Chennai Corporation, via The Hindu, said more than 15,000 personnel were out overnight, with 650 motor and tractor-mounted pumps, one NDRF team and four TNDRF teams. It said all 22 subway underpasses were cleared and reopened for traffic by 6 am. Nine relief centres were open, and food was distributed. The Times of India attributes the figure of more than 15,000 civic workers to GCC commissioner G S Sameeran. Daily Thanthi reported that traffic was moving in all 22 subways, citing the Corporation. Dinamani, in a report at 9:58 am, said 21 of 22 subways were free of water, and that the Ganesapuram subway was under bridge maintenance. That is Dinamani's count, set beside the Corporation's.

On deaths, the Corporation, via The Hindu, said the Corporation area had reported no rain-related deaths and no major accidents. A separate incident is not that statement. On Saturday morning in Thirunindravur, in Tiruvallur district, one person died after an 11 kV cable fell. TNEB officials cited insulator failure. The caption names The Hindu and The New Indian Express for that incident.

The forecast, from the RMC via The Times of India, is heavy to very heavy rain for Chennai on Sunday, and heavy rain in 17 Tamil Nadu districts on Sunday. The caption puts the heavy-to-very-heavy forecast on Chennai and nearby areas, and the Sunday alert on those 17 districts. The teams through 21 October are in The Hindu's account of the minister.

The reel is not a picture of the peak waterlogging. It is the Corporation's relief and pumping work. The credit on the footage is Courtesy Greater Chennai Corporation. One clip is a 100 HP pump draining BB Road at the Goods Shed pond in the Tondiarpet zone. Another is a super-sucker near Porur, at the Alapakkam Main Road and Arcot Road junction, Zone 11, Ward 150. A third is a canal inspection. The Corporation's post on that clip describes ACS Gagandeep Singh Bedi inspecting the canal flow. The posts are in Tamil, and they do not state the death or the subway figures. The poster is a frame from that footage, and it is not cropped.
