On 2 October 2026 the Embassy of India in Oman said it had coordinated the rescue of five Indian nationals aboard the Kuwait-flagged crude tanker MT Kazimah III. The embassy's wording, as ANI carried it in The Tribune, is that the ship was "struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz". All five were shifted ashore safely. The embassy thanked the Omani authorities. The Times of India, Hindustan Times and Business Standard report that embassy account. The Tribune story is timed at 4:47 am IST on 3 October. The Times of India is timed at 5:25 am IST the same morning. The tanker is reported en route to Lome, Togo.
UKMTO warning 149/26 is a separate text. It is dated 2 October, at 2142 UTC, which is 3:12 am IST on 3 October. The master of a crude oil tanker reported being struck by an unknown projectile on the port side, 4 nautical miles east of Oman. All crew were reported safe. No environmental impact was reported at that time. Authorities are investigating. The warning does not name the vessel. Reports in Indian outlets link that warning to MT Kazimah III. The embassy names the ship. UKMTO does not. This note keeps those two attributions apart.
A fire on board is not in the embassy statement, and it is not in warning 149/26. Moneycontrol, timed at 4:32 am IST on 3 October, reports a fire. Riviera Maritime Media also reports a fire. Riviera cites a UKMTO third-party report and the security firm Marisks, and dates the strike to 1 October. Moneycontrol also dates the strike to 1 October. The embassy's rescue update is dated 2 October. This note does not treat the fire as established. It is what those two outlets report, and what the embassy and the numbered warning do not.
No source read for this note identifies who fired, or what kind of projectile it was. No state is named here, and no group is named here, because none is named in those sources. The damage, the cause, and the exact place of the strike are not established. No casualty is reported in these accounts. The five Indians are described as safely ashore, and UKMTO says all crew on the tanker in its warning were safe.
The Ministry of External Affairs said on 29 September that more than 4,500 Indian seafarers were on commercial vessels operating in the Gulf area. That figure is context for how many Indians are at sea in the region. It is not a count of people on this tanker.
Neutral Politics checked the embassy account via ANI and The Tribune, UKMTO warning 149/26, The Times of India, Hindustan Times, Business Standard, Moneycontrol, Riviera, and a Tribune report of the UKMTO warning. The check was on 3 October 2026 (IST). As of about 9:20 am IST that morning, no later update was found after the reports timed between 4:32 am and 5:25 am IST. This note was posted at 2:22 pm IST.
The cover is a Neutral Politics schematic of a map. It is not to scale. It does not mark where the strike happened. It is not a photograph of the ship.
What's next
